I’ve pared my laundry routine down to a science. Put a bag of clothes in my car before I go to work, so that on the way home I can stop at the laundromat and launder my laundry. A separate tote bag for my detergents, my fabric softeners and my dryer sheets. And if I need hangers, a quick trip across the parking lot to the Dollar Tree has me covered.
And this routine has served me well for the past year or so. Get the clothes in the washer, walk to the other side of the parking lot for a slice of pizza, and come back to the laundromat after I’ve finished my slice. Good stuff.
Except the other day …
I toss my clothes from the washer into the dryer, add a few fabric softener sheets, and all seems good to go …
Until I look over to my left. A woman is trying to load quarters into the dryer, and one of the quarters is jammed in the mechanism. She’s pushing the coin return, but no luck. She’s trying to wedge a house key into the mechanism to try to jostle the coin loose, but no dice.
Now I could just do my own thing, mind my own beeswax, and tend to my personal business.
But I saw the woman grow more and more frustrated.
And at that point … I had to do something.
I walked over to the machine. “Let me see what I can do,” I said.
I immediately took out my cell phone, captured the dryer’s QR code on my phone, and – well – paid for the drying cycle myself. The machine spun on command. All was well.
She thanked me, and I went back to folding my sanitaries and hanging my shirts.
I get it. We’re all here in this world and we have one chance to make it a better place.
And what’s an extra dollar if it helps someone else out? Besides, we all know that one good deed gets multiplied over time. Or at least I’d like to think it would.
Have a great Sunday, everyone. 🙂
